Sankatha Ghat is a smaller ghat on the central stretch of the riverfront, between Scindia Ghat and Ganga Mahal Ghat (II) — named for a Sankata Devi shrine on the ghat, dedicated to a protective form of the goddess invoked in times of difficulty.
Like most of Varanasi's 84 ghats, Sankatha Ghat is used day to day mostly by residents of the surrounding lanes for bathing, laundry and the ordinary rhythm of riverside life, rather than drawing the crowds that gather at the handful of landmark ghats nearby.
It sits within easy walking distance of both Scindia Ghat and Ganga Mahal Ghat (II), and is best taken in as part of a longer walk or boat ride along this stretch rather than visited on its own.
