Where you stay in Varanasi matters more than in most cities, because the difference between a ghat-facing room and one ten minutes away by auto changes your whole trip. A room close to Assi Ghat or Dashashwamedh Ghat means you can walk to the morning boat and the evening Aarti; a room further out means budgeting extra travel time around the city's narrow, often-jammed lanes near the temple.
We don't run a booking engine with thousands of unseen listings — we keep a shortlist of stays our own team has walked through, checked for cleanliness, and confirmed the actual walking distance to the ghats, not just what a map claims.
Simple rooms within walking distance of Assi Ghat or Dashashwamedh Ghat — good for backpackers, students and pilgrims who mainly need a clean bed and a short walk to the river.
₹800 – ₹1,800 per night
AC rooms, breakfast included, usually within a 10-minute walk or short auto ride from Kashi Vishwanath — the most common choice for families and couples.
₹2,000 – ₹4,500 per night
Ganga-facing rooms or restored havelis, for travellers who want to watch the Aarti or sunrise directly from a balcony or rooftop.
₹5,000 and above per night
Old-city lanes near the ghats are narrow and often closed to vehicles — a hotel that's "500m away" on a map can mean a 15-minute walk through crowded lanes.
Rooms directly above Dashashwamedh Ghat get loudspeaker sound from the evening Aarti until late — lovely if you want that, disruptive if you want early sleep.
Some heritage properties in the old city require a short walk or hand-cart for luggage since cars can't reach the door — worth knowing before you arrive tired from a train.
Assi Ghat is quieter, more popular with international travellers, and has a wider choice of cafes. Dashashwamedh Ghat is closer to Kashi Vishwanath and the main Aarti, but noisier and more crowded in the evening.
Some do, but arrangements and pricing vary a lot in quality. We can add hotel booking on to any of our tour packages so the boat, guide and hotel are coordinated together.
