Home / Temples / Sankata Devi Mandir
Devi TempleSankata translates roughly to "crisis" or "trouble," and this temple near Sindhia Ghat is where devotees specifically come to pray through difficult periods — illness, financial strain, family trouble — asking the goddess to see them through.
Inside the temple complex, a striking lion statue stands watch, along with a set of nine small shrines representing the Navagraha, the nine celestial bodies of Hindu astrology, which devotees often circle as part of their visit.
The temple's location near Sindhia Ghat makes it an easy stop if you're already walking the riverfront, and it tends to be far less crowded than the major Shiva temples nearby, which suits people looking for a quieter moment of prayer.
Like many of Kashi's neighbourhood goddess temples, Sankata Devi is woven into daily local life rather than positioned as a tourist stop — most of the devotees you'll see here are regulars, not visitors.
