Devi TempleAt Durga Ghat, near the Brahmeshwar temple β reached by rickshaw to Bhaironath and a short walk, or by boat to Durga Ghat or Brahma Ghat and up the steps β Brahma Charini is worshipped as the second of the nine Navadurga forms honoured across Navratri, with a separate related image, Brahmini, kept at the nearby Brahmeshwar temple in Khalispura.
In her previous birth, Puranic tradition holds Brahma Charini was born as the daughter of Himalaya and undertook long, severe penance (tapasya) specifically to win Shiva as her husband β an act of such discipline that the devas and sages praised her, and Brahma himself foretold she would succeed, earning her the related name Tapascharini.
Her name and legend together make her the goddess most associated in Kashi's devotional tradition with penance, self-control, and steadfast duty, and daily worship here is said to build proficiency in Brahma Vidya β spiritual and higher learning β giving this shrine a particular appeal to students and those pursuing advanced study.
Worshipped especially during Navratri (SeptemberβOctober), Brahma Charini's shrine near Durga Ghat sits within a part of the old city already notable for goddess worship, and pilgrims often combine a visit here with the nearby Brahmeshwar temple and its own Brahmini image.
